Purple Clouds Again ...

Purple clouds again,
And thoughts flow back to that cool dusk far past
When we, hearts all aglow, stood facing West
As one. Then heavenly sky was deep bronze cast
And purple clouds hung low on mountain crest.

Somewhere we parted, then the sunset flew away.
Now purple clouds return, but happiness has flown.
Now no communion ends the sinking day.
I, sighing, turn and face the West alone.
